What
are the uses of EConExplorer?
EConExplorerª
is ideal for use within highly distributed enterprise environments
having content (documents, structured and unstructured data,
media files etc.) that reside in dynamic repositories such
as Legacy Systems, Database Servers, Mainframes, etc.
Content is made accessible to authorized users via
a web browser in a presentation format designed by your organization.
This way, EConExplorer
creates a virtual desktop of your static and dynamic content
to various groups of users.
TOP
What
are the functionalities that come with EConExplorer?
Authorized
end-users, who are given accessibility rights, are able to
view, update, navigate, sort, save, create ad-hoc reports,
perform distributed searches to dynamic repositories using
meta data, and perform distributed searches to document repositories
using user interfaces designed for each content by your organization
through any HTML editor. In EConExplorer terminology,
content refers to information with business logic as well,
such as Work Flow, Contact Management, Inventory Management
and Help Desk Systems, etc.
TOP
What

Dynamic
content is information that is retrieved using criteria such

information such as data collected from a research site.
In contrast, static content is infrequently modified.
TOP
Can
EConExplorer
manage my web content?
EConExplorer
can certainly be utilized for managing your web content on
your website, however the power lies in its ability

What
types of operating systems can EConExplorer
run on?
EConExplorer
is a cross-platform solution.
It can run on Windows, many Unix flavors, and Linux
platforms.

There
are two methods for installing EConExplorer. The
program can be installed on Windows platforms using the executable
installer. For installation on Unix, Linux, or Windows,

server:

How
does EConExplorer
differ from Microsoft®
QMF?
Microsoft¨
QMF supports data retrieval from ODBC sources and runs only
on Microsoft® platforms. EConExplorer runs on various

Technical FAQs ::
When
I perform a Metadata Search on dynamic repositories (such
as database servers), how do I access results on remote peers?
EConExplorer
displays the results from all peers/hosts which responded
to your Metadata search, you can then click on each search
result icon to view the result from that peer.
(Note:
You must have access privilege to this peer, this also acts
as second layer of security)
TOP
When
I click on the DocumentManager, the interface comes up empty
with "No Data" in the fields, what is the problem?
EConExplorer
needs to have connection to the internet in order to use its
XML schema and DTDs. Make sure the machine you are running
EConExplorer on has access to the internet
TOP
I
am trying to enable various properties in a ContentObject,
such as Enable Insert and Enable Update, but these options
are grayed out in the configuration interface. What
is wrong?
Check
the properties of the data source that the ContentObject is
bound to. If the corresponding properties are disabled
there, they will not be available for the ContentObject.
TOP
I
have enabled various properties in a ContentObject, such as
Enable Insert and Enable Update, but these options are not
available in the user interface. What is wrong?
Check
the template that you are using. If the code corresponding
to the property is not present in the template, these options
will not be available in the interface. Refer to chapter
9 of the documentation for more information on templates.
TOP
When
I perform a distributed search, only a few results are listed.
I know that there should be more items that matched the search.
What is wrong?
Check
the distributed search configuration interface. The
property default Max Hit Per Provider can limit
the results from a distributed search. Adjust the number
to fit your needs.
TOP
Why
am I unable to connect to the databases that came with EConExplorer?
Before
the databases can be accessible, you need to define ODBC nodes
for them.
TOP
When
entering a URL for a TextSource or XMLSource, what is the
root directory so that I can enter a relative path?
The
root directory in this situation would be the ../EConex/WEB-INF/config
directory of the installation.
TOP
I
am trying to set the mask type for a field in a ContentObject.
Changing the type does not seem to make a difference.
What is wrong?
Check
the data type of the field in the data source that the ContentObject
is bound to. The data type in the data source will overrule
the mask type in the ContentObject.
TOP
I
have added a new record to a ContentObject, but I do not know
how to save my addition. What do I do?
Once
the new data is entered, simply perform any navigation to
bring up the save changes button, if enabled.

I
have changed information in an existing record of a ContentObject,
but I do not know how to save my changes. What do I

Once
the changes have been entered, simply perform any navigation
to bring up the save changes button, if enabled.

When
using EConExplorer
4.6 Evaluation Edition in Windows 95, 98, and ME, a window is
displayed saying "out of environment space" and
the program will not run. How do I add more environment
space?
This
error results from older versions of Windows not allocating
enough initial environment memory for the DOS shell that is
trying to run the Tomcat java servlet container. Only
Evaluation Edition versions downloaded before May 29, 2002 are
affected.
To
fix this problem, you can either download the latest version
of Evaluation Edition from our website and reinstall the program,
or manually increase the initial environment memory.
There
are two ways to manually increase the initial environment
memory.
Method
1: go to the bin folder inside the EConExplorer directory
that you installed the program to. Right-click startupBrowser.bat
(startu~1.bat), and choose Properties. Select the Memory
tab and set the Initial Environment to 4096 bytes. Repeat
the same steps for startupManager.bat (startu~2.bat).
Now the program should start-up normally.
Method
2: edit the config.sys file on your computer probably
located at the root of the C drive. Add the line
SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM C:\ /E:4096 /P
It
may be possible that you already have a similar line, in that
case you can increase the value after the '/E:' option, that
is the size of the environment space. Remember to reboot.
If you still have the same error, increase the number more.

After
I installed EConExplorer I cannot log on to the application
due to authentication failure. What is wrong?
EConExplorer
creates two default two default groups: Administrator and
Public. When EConExplorer is deployed using the installer
on Windows platform it prompts you for an Administrator account
password (case sensitive). This account has access/belongs
to all the default groups (which you can modify). When you
launch EConExplorer you must supply your authentication, and
if using the default settings it has to be Administrator as
user name and the password you supplied the application during
the setup. Please remember that all user authentication is
case sensitive.
